A year in York

I have lived in York for a year now. Strange to think back to that and how now I see York up close every day :op Even more so that I do the models. Making this bit of the wall round St Mary’s has shown me lots of new hidden parts. The models look really nice. Sadly nothing to upload tomorrow as I need to get more information for the inside bits. Should be able to get a little more up tomorrow. I am aiming to get the wall done by the weekend. Then over the weekend maybe St Olives or the Yorkshire museum.

50

It’s a bit of a late night blog tonight. I have been out enjoying the resident’s festival. Followed by getting the first few bits of St Mary’s precinct wall up. Also my first non wall related building for months. I will aim to get the St Mary’s precinct walls all done in two weeks. Then work on the inner buildings.

In other news I got my 50 badge today. Google have uploaded a good 29 wall bits. They look really nice. I can’t wait to see the rest in. Possibly on the next Google earth 3D layer update.

Wall Next?

Last night I worked well up to 3AM to finish all the splitting and photo texturing to the walls. It's now at the third done. Now the next problems come to light. I have finished the wall in a way yet I haven’t. There are still bits of walls in museum gardens. Wall bits by Clifford’s tower. As well as the Saint Mary’s Abby precinct walls. All of which are really hard to do. None of which where in the original plan for making the walls. I just can’t stand not to do them so it’s what it coming next. Unlike the main bits of walls I will be doing this in more an ad hock affair. 

It was good weather to get some photos today. I have started to develop the walls for the Saint Mary’s Abby. The only problem is that half of the wall is covered by modem buildings. I am working on the wall running down Marygate. I don’t have a completion date as such. I will get a little bit on tomorrow night as it’s developed rather quickly.

In other news Google got back to me on the 40 odd models I improved/ uploaded last night. All where rejected due to a miss mash of things. All have been appealed. Now that its predominantly done I feel things shouldn’t take to long to get sorted now. It can then be toped with the other bits of wall before I start my big summer project ;op

All change

Tonight I am uploading the last bits of the wall round Micklegate Bar. This completes that side of the wall. It’s all photo textured and basically done. Apart form textures I still can’t get because the walls are still closed. I will also update everything in the Minster side of town with better texturing and split the models. The Walmgate side is just about done to. The only bit that needs texturing is round Red Tower. I should most likely get that done by Saturday night. How ever as its resident’s weekend. I will be out and about enjoying lots of free places. From tonight on if I do updates they will just be when its sorted not ever Friday night.

Another day of nothing

Its not been going well with modelling the wall the last few days. As I said in the last blog Thursdays are so busy for me and tomorrow looking busy to. I will be uploading the rest of the wall on the Friday. Just might still need to do some splitting and photo texturing to the ramparts. Google have got back to me about a few models and how they would like to see them. Apparently they want me to join more together to make “longer runs” as they put it. I believe how I am working is how it should be just they don’t give me a reply address so I am a bit buggered there! Look out tomorrow for the final models and the Minster area all retextured in full beautiful ramparting texture :op

A stagnated day

I have done nothing at all today on the wall. Now that it’s coming to and end I need to be getting on with a new course I am undertaking at work. I will be doing the uploading on Friday. I might get some of the wall done tomorrow. Thursdays are always my busiest day of the week.

The beginning of the end

It has finally come. The models are finish. Is what I can’t wait to say? Just it seems to be an ever going list. I said it was done when it was built. Next it’s done (which is now) as it’s all textured on the wall. Coming then it will be done as in ramparts photo textured. Followed by its done when I can get textured due to weather and the wall been closed. Then the final it’s done will be when it’s all live in Google Earth. All that said tonight makes the completion of the wall. I do only have a little bit more to go till it’s done. The following days will see the other bits to the wall split and ramparts textured so this Friday I am aiming to get everything sorted. Then I just have to wait until the wall reopens and weather improves to do the final improvements.

Everything ends!

The end is very close now. Aside from splitting and photo texturing all I have to do is one tower. It should be done by tomorrow. Followed by a lot of terraining. Then I will have to wait till the wall opens again to get the little bits to improve the models more. By that time I should have got most of it live. I have 4 new bits of the wall popped up today and it seems a lot more will go on with the next Google Earth update.

Terrain or Not terrain? That’s a good question

It’s meant to be my big terrain upload. Just it’s not going to happen. I have done a little and then noticed Google are doing there uploading of new models. Some of which are my wall models. Because of this I don’t wish to have the models which have been approved rejected again. I would rather let them get uploaded with the old terrain first before I fight to get the new terrain up. If that all makes sense. I will wait till the Friday to do the rest of the terrain. I got the entire Minster bit done. In places I have split up the wall into smaller bits. This splitting not happened at Walmgate side yet. It should get done in the week. As well as the rest of the wall. Which still feels like it can be done for Friday. It’s really nice to see the wall finally getting live. I wonder how long it will take to get it all live.

Terraing on

I am slowly getting all the models up to date with better terrain. Its taking a bit longer then I thought. I am still pushing to get all the models updated for Sunday night. It might be a late upload.

Google have spoken

And they said yes ;o) All my model appeals have been over turned. How ever they would like to see the models that feature the lovely green changed. This means about half the wall will need updating. I plan to do this all over the weekend. Then there will be a special updating to all my models that have been updated on Sunday night. After that I will hammer on to finish the wall for Friday. There is not much left to do, its more just getting sat down to do it. This said some bits still can’t be photographed due to rain, ice, snow and killer trees so for now bits might just be filled in with a dull texture until I can get what is needed. This is shown in a bit of the wall I uploaded tonight. I still can’t get a photo for the steps so I have used a dull texture for now. This texture should be able to get this weekend as its warming up a bit. I also don’t have work so can be out round dusk to get the photo when it’s had the day to dry. It still looks ok and I managed to get 9 new models up today with one updated to Barker tower to make it fit in with the wall. I wonder how Google will handle Baile Hill as its just a hill :op Yet its legally a building. I will let you all know how things develop in the coming days. Until then keep a look out for Sunday terrain update.

Thank you for your note

Said Google to 30 appeals :op All of which have been apparently reversed judgment. Yet from my past experience this can only mean it’s passed this little bit. It still could be a longer battle to get the wall into GE. Also this is for 30 of the 70+ that I have uploaded. Not all have yet to be appealed. Now that’s done with I have not done much today to the wall as I have been out for a meal. Should get some done tomorrow morning before work then upload around 10ish.

The Wonky Bit

That’s the bit running from Barker Tower to the first tower and the bit of wall I got uploaded on Friday is finally done! Well just about as I need one more photo of the steps by the tower. With the frost we have been having it’s been to wet to do so. I am confident I can get that little bit done for this Friday. I feel this little bit of walls taking far too long to do. It dose look lovely to see. Now I am going to push at the other side near Baile Hill to see if I can get a little bit more ready for this Friday. In other news, I got another 22 rejections from Google. This was all the models uploaded on Friday. Again all sorts of reasons. No news about my appeals yet

Never ending!

Is how the wall feels right now. I know it’s mostly done and I am closer to finishing the wall then ever before. It’s just this last bits taking for ever! Even with working a lot on it today it still seems to not be done. How ever it dose look amazing. Should be done for tomorrow fingers crossed on the weather as the frost didn’t give me the opportunity to get the photos I wanted.

Walling on

It’s coming along really well. A lovely day for photos followed by getting some of them put to use. I wish I could have done more tonight but been talking on the phone a lot. Its going to be another good day tomorrow so should be able to get the rest of the photos I need and then its down to some heavy wall making.

Another rain day

As the subject title suggests it’s been another wet day in York. The river is up a bit and it’s been raining for the best part of the day. The good news is that last night I got a little motivation and started on the bit of wall that’s left. I got about half done and it looked really nice. I hope to get it done for the Friday upload. The coming week looks like a rain free one so fingers crossed that I can get my photos.

The List

I drew up a list of everything that needs doing to the walls. It was mostly redo terrain. Most of which can be done when ever. I should have done a lot today due to it been a wet day out. Just today I have lacked any motivation to do anything. I have sort of done the bit round Baile Hill and am sort of working on the bit by Barker Tower. I seems to be frazzeled after last nights huge upload.

WOW!

I have just done 25 new models! 45 minutes to upload them all! WOW! Its now so close to the wall been done :oD I am shocked by how much I got done this week. Now all that’s left are the end bits to the Micklegate side of town and to update all my other wall bits with photographic texturing to the rampart (Lee) and then its done. Not sure what will be done for next Friday as the walls still closed and with more rain I don’t know if I can get new photos to finish for a bit. Just have to keep reading the blog to see. On a side note, the rest of the wall should be about 20 or so more models, that’s including the older bits that will be split when I get to doing the texturing. I might work on the texturing this weekend.

Tell us why were wrong!

I did 36 times! I got all the wall bits basically rejected for just about everything Google can reject you for today! From incorrect height to photo texturing missing. I was not impressed! I was going to do the appeals on the weekend. Just after resent model events which shall not be mentioned on this blog I have put them all back to Google! In other news I have been working on the bit of wall running from Micklegate Bar to Victoria Bar again. It’s coming along well. Just might get 5 more modeless up for the Friday showing. It shouldn’t be too late on Friday.

The Split

I have decided I will split some models up. Mainly bits of the wall to make them a bit more manageable for working on and uploading to Google Earth. In the bit round the station I split two models into two so now there are four :op I now have it all done so am working on the bit running from Micklegate Bar down to Victoria Bar. I doubt it will all be done by Friday but I might get a few models up in that area. Its all looking good to get 95% of the walls up for next weekend. Then just a few dickey bits by the river. Not forgetting splitting bits of wall and photo texturing the rest. I still believe I can get it done totally for Februarys start.

Coming along well

With a nice day of weather I got the last photos needed for the bit round the station. I now have 7 models in tip top condition to go live for Friday. In the works are a further four models which should be on come Friday. The big question right now is should I split some models up more into little bits to make them more manageable or just leave them. I will have a cat with people about it and get back to that question tomorrow. Once this bits done I luckily have some photos for the next bit which is the wall running from Micklegate Bar down to Victoria Bar. Just its still shut due to the tree and the weathers not looking great.

Rain, rain and more rain!

It might be a bit of an annoyance if it dose not stop. I have been working on and on with the bit by the station. Looks like most of it could be done so long as the rain lets off tomorrow so I can get photos. Just the latest weather report says rain. Not just rain but heavy rain which it’s been all today so I doubt the walls will be dry by the time I get out to photograph them. If it dose then it’s very unlikely I will get 10 models this weekend.

Here there…

And taking a long time! The walls slowly coming along now. I have stopped working on the bit running from Victoria Bar to Baile Hill now due to the tree and might need to giggle the models a bit later so have moved onto the bit by the station. I didn’t want to do this bit till the end as its rather tricky. Just with the weather been well and this bit of the wall open I have got on with it today. Nothing finished but lots half done. Still aiming for 10 models but could be 5 at the rate this bit is going.

Zoned Out

After yesterdays huge upload I am feeling a bit wiped out about the wall. I have worked on one small bit for five hours. It’s looking really cracking! I am aiming to get another 10 models up for next Friday. It shouldn’t be as late an upload either as last night was crazy late. In other news the weather should be getting better. I managed to get about 20 photos today. Sill in need for this tree to get sorted before I am going to be able to fully complete the wall.

EPIC UPLOAD!

It’s done! I have uploaded 20 new models to go with the wall collection. Also 6 models got updated with better terrain. The next part to be done shall be from Victoria Bar down to Baile Hill. True the killer tree is still on the rampage and the weather is poor but I still have 300 images to play with for it all. Next weeks upload should see about 10 new models and possibly others been updated with better terrain. I have reached the half way point to building the walls today.

Epiphany

Down came all the decorations and on with the wall I went. I called up the council to see why the bit of wall round Micklegate was closed. They say a tree needs to be felled. Just they don’t know it belongs to so nobody is allowed on the walls until then. Sort of holds me up a bit but like normal its wet and cold so even if I could get on it would just be to wet to photograph it. As this is the case I will hold back the models I have done for that bit of the wall as I would like to make sure they are accurate enough. The council couldn’t give me a date the walls would reopen so might be a bit sporadic how I upload that area. The Walmgate side that will be uploaded tomorrow will be a total upload. I just need to do three little buttresses and then its all ready to go. Should be late Friday night like I said. Then I aim to get the bit running from Victoria Bar round to Baile Hill sorted for the next week.

Getting closer

I now only have three small bits to do for the Walmgate side of the walls. Its looking like that whole area will be uploaded on Friday. How ever don’t stay up late as the uploading will be done really late on Friday night. I am aiming to get the three small bits sorted tomorrow and then do more to the bit from Victoria Bar to Baile Hill. It’s also become apparent that my model of Micklegate Bar needs to be some how better then the current model so I have improved it even more then before and that will be thrown into the mix on Friday. Still have not heard anything back from Google to how the models have been taken.

Pandemonium

What with earth quakes, getting no sleep, snow, an eclipse and having to get up at 6am to walk for an hour to work in the snow then look after 16 hyped up kiddies it’s been a bit of a drain on me. I have done a little on the bit of wall running round from Victoria Bar to Baile Hill. I would like to get most of that done before Friday. The tricky parts from Walmgate side are still proving a tough cookie to crack. Might get the majority of it uploaded. Just have a few gaps for a week. Also with the fresh snow, outlook of very heavy rain and most the wall closed due to the killer tree it might get back to been a waiting game on photos.

Area 1

That’s the bit from Bootham Bar to Lathorpe Tower is done. It will be uploaded on Friday. Along with right now 80% of Walmgate side of the walls. The remaining 20% is proving to be really tricky right now. It might be all done by Friday. I have the photos to finish it the only down side will be starting work again after the holidays might slow me up.

Photogeddon

It’s finally been good weather! So good I managed to get 425 photos in 2 hours. This is mainly for the wall round Micklegate Bar. I managed to get a few for the Monk Bar area of the wall to so hopefully come Friday I will get some more if not all of it up. It’s going to be another dry day so I hope I can get the rest of the photos I need. Should be about another 50 odd :op Yes its taking a lot of photo time. I have only done a few bits today. Seem to be having issues with adding photos now into the models.

2011

It still seems strange to say its 2011. After last nights crazy uploading I am a bit frazzeled. Its been a wet day again so no photos for the wall sadly. Its even drizzly right now so I am doubting it will be good tomorrow to get photos. How ever I have been working on doing the Walmgate side of the walls today. The aim will be to upload some models ever Friday. I still feel I can get it all done by February. Just the weather and a killer tree on the rampage over towns got some of the walls closed :op
